Colorful Campaign
The murder of George Floyd left us enraged and heartbroken. The subsequent protests that cascaded across this country and then around the globe, demanded more than accountability from law enforcement and elected officials. Each of us were being called upon to take up the mantle of forging racial justice. Each of us were being asked to reflect on who we are and what we believe in.
Like many of you, we at Irish Community Services have been grappling with what these questions mean for us as members of the Irish community. Furthermore, we have been considering what they mean for us as a human services organization with a mission statement that reads ‘to serve, empower and connect the Irish and Irish American Community of the Midwestern United States’. While we understood we had an obligation to act and we wanted to create a project to showcase people of color in our community. We want to honor and support the people of color in our community and celebrate the diversity they embody that enriches all our experiences of being Irish.
