Ireland - USA Travel Restrictions
Information listed below is current as of December 7th 2021
Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, travel between Ireland and the USA has been disrupted and a number of restrictions are currently in place.
The CDC recommends that you DO Not travel internationally until you are fully vaccinated.
Travelling to Ireland
If you are travelling to Ireland from overseas you must fill out a Passenger Locator Form (PLF) before departure.
Passengers to Ireland with:
an accepted proof of vaccination, or
proof of recovery from COVID-19 in the prior 6 months
do not have to show an additional pre-departure COVID-19 test result.
Since 1 February 2022:
vaccine certificates for primary vaccination series are not accepted for travel if more than 270 days have passed since the final dose in the primary vaccine series
vaccine certificates based on booster/additional doses are not time limited
A standard acceptance period of 14 days after the final dose in a primary vaccine series of a vaccine are required for all vaccines accepted for travel to Ireland. Passengers without proof of vaccination, or proof of recovery from COVID-19 in the prior 6 months, must show evidence of a negative ('not detected') PCR test result taken within 72 hours prior to arriving in Ireland.
Travelling to the USA
Starting on November 8, foreign national air travelers to the United States will be required to be fully vaccinated and to provide proof of vaccination status prior to boarding an airplane to fly to the United States, with only limited exceptions.
The CDC has determined that for the purposes of entry into the United States, vaccines accepted will include those FDA approved or authorized, as well as vaccines with an emergency use listing (EUL) from the World Health Organization (WHO). See the CDC's website for more details.
Starting on December 6, before boarding a flight to the United States, air travelers aged two and older, regardless of nationality or vaccination status, are required to show documentation of a negative viral test result taken within one day of the flight’s departure. You must show your negative result to the airline before you board your flight. That includes all travelers – U.S. citizens, lawful permanent residents (LPRs), and foreign nationals.
If you recently recovered from COVID-19, you may instead travel with documentation of recovery from COVID-19 (i.e., your positive COVID-19 viral test result on a sample taken no more than 90 days before the flight’s departure from a foreign country, and a letter from a licensed healthcare provider or a public health official stating that you were cleared to travel).
